I was quite surprised at how small the package was for the Flip MinoHD. A small cardboard box not much larger than the MinoHD was dropped off at my door. Inside the box, the MinoHD was smiling at me. You can choose either the plain MinoHD, pick one of the many custom designs or upload your own image to personalize your camcorder.

Tucked underneath the MinoHD are the accessories: a soft fabric carrying case and a couple sheets of paper on warranty and quickstart guide.

Taking a closer look at the MinoHD, the front is highly polished. The screen size is 2″ and has a resolution of 320×240 pixels. I felt the screen looked a little small but it already takes up the entire width of the device. In keeping the overall profile small I can accept the smaller screen. In addition to the big red record button there are six other touch-sensitive capacitive buttons.

On the side with the lens we have the personalized cover. Mine is a smiling happy face but you can choose between one of the many preloaded designs or upload your own.

On the sides of the device we have the USB plug hidden in the top as well as the power button, speaker and microphone, HDMI plug and tripod mount.

I would have loved to see an expandable memory slot to install your own MicroSD card and expand the memory beyond 8GB.

Moving on we’ll see how little is actually required to get the Flip MinoHD going.
