The 1050 Micro definitely has some neat features; one of them being is the extra accessory called Pick n Pluck foam. Pick N Pluck foam comes in sizes to fit each model of Pelican cases.

The foam is pre scored into small cubes so that you can just pluck out to the size that you need. Here I pulled out enough to fit my Canon SD550 and extra battery.

Since the Pelican 1050 Micro case is supposed to be able to withstand 5000 lbs. of pressure, I had my wife jump into our minivan with a curb weight of 4400 lbs and had her run it over. Now when she ran it over there was a loud crack and you can see the lid is pushed slightly ajar and I feared the case just couldn’t handle it. However after checking it over the only thing I initially noticed was one side of the latch was slightly bent. No cracks; the structural integrity remained and it still closed.

I then continued some testing and here is where I found another point of damage. After submerging the case in water I found that it filled with water. It was apparent that when the van ran it over, the lip that provides the seal against the rubber liner actually cut that liner along the front thus eliminating the seal and any water resistance.

So the Pelican gets some good points for being able to withstand a lot of weight and retain the structure thus preventing any physical damage to the contents, however the watertight seal was ruined. The good news is that replacement case liners are available for just over 3 dollars.
