I tested the Plextor PX-B120U with my Dell XPS m1330 laptop. I connected it to a USB port and it was instantly recognized. No software needs to be installed. I used Nero CD-DVD Speed 4.7.7.16 for testing. I tested the drive by reading a CD-ROM, a DVD-ROM, and a BD-ROM disc.

CD (burned data disc):

Read speeds reached the advertised 24x. For some reason, the surface scan was not supported.

DVD (burned data disc):

Speeds reached almost 8x. The surface scan was perfect but it doesn’t mean much as the PX-B120U did not and cannot burn discs.

Blu-ray (retail copy of Reservoir Dogs):

BD read speeds only reached about 3.7x. They did not reach the advertised 4x. The surface scan shows that the disc is not to blame for the low read speed as it is perfect.
