QNAP TS-559 Pro Turbo NAS
Jul 22nd, 2010 | By AnthonyUnlike most of the network attached storage solutions that have passed through here, the TS-559 isn’t one aimed at the home market, unless of course, one would like it to be. The TS-559 Pro instead falls right in the middle of the SMB/ Corporate lineup and products of that sort of environment are evaluated just a bit differently. We’re no longer talking about just performance because QNAP along with a handful of other manufacturers of competing products have already managed to hit the upper bounds of what our current Gigabit ethernet capabilities can provide in terms of throughput. That said, if the last many pages haven’t said it enough, the TS-559 Pro is fast, and to date the fastest NAS unit we’ve looked at. I don’t mean to be all Forest Gump ‘… and that’s all I have to say about that’, but there really is no disputing the ‘the fastest NAS unit we’ve looked at’- so far. And believe me, we’ve seen quite a number of network attatched storage units. Although, I wholeheartedly encourage being contradicted.

What QNAP has especially done right (besides speed, of course) is support. QNAP’s own documentation is wonderful but in this day and age no manufacturer or company can put out enough literature to support each and every one of its users. It is instead the user base. A real knowledge base is formed by its users and QNAP has embraced this by providing official forums and an official QNAP Wiki for users to access instantaneously a community of professionals and longtime product users. QNAP also does a lot of listening to what its users want.
With the size of drives today, even though the TS-559 Pro is just a five drive unit, it can hold an absurd amount of data. Whether you’re looking for a backup solution, a centralized server for the typical office or for the countless other applications a fast network device could fill, the TS-559 Pro should be at the top of your list.

Advantages
- Excellent user interface
- Features, features, features
- And it’s fast!
Disadvantages
- One year warranty
I’d like to thank QNAP for making this review possible.
